However, they cannot transition by themselves and are in need of our help as they adjust to a foreign country. There is fear that they might be abandoned once again due to the lack of resources and assistance. The prejudiced looks that they may receive just because of their identity as refugees, as well as the language barrier all make it difficult for them to even take a step outside of their homes.
Though the government has offered funding to find a house, these individuals will need additional support for necessary furniture and basic appliances. It is especially more difficult for individuals who are not used to sitting on the floor for meals or sleeping on the floor without a bed. Recently, one of the families joyfully welcomed a newborn into their family in Korea but were also heartbroken for not being able to purchase a crib and other necessities.
In February, Samaritan’s Purse Korea was officially recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a “supporter” for this cause of assisting the Afghan refugees. We have been actively working with these families to meet their needs. Though these families have already received some support from the government because of their identity as “special contributors,” there still remains a great need for churches, groups, and individuals to be involved and provide ongoing assistance.
Please join us in providing for these families and filling their empty homes with beds, dining tables and other necessary furniture.
*Eligibility to receive these funds: Families who have evacuated from the Afghan crisis in 2021 and are recognized in Korea as refugees.
